Most common types of depressive thinking:

  • I’m ugly.
  • Nobody likes me.
  • I can’t do anything right.
  • I’m stupid.
  • I have no friends.
  • I’m worthless.
  • I’m difficult.
  • I’ll never get better or feel happy again.
  • I feel like I’m no good.
  • I’ve lost my confidence.
  • I feel guilty.
  • My attitude is negative all of the time.
  • Life is meaningless, nothing good is ever going to happen.
  • I’m always irritated.
  • Little things make me lose my temper.
  • I’m different from everyone else.
  • I don’t fit in.
  • I think about death all of the time.
  • I’m tired all of the time.
  • I should: feel happy, get along with my parents, get better grades, be more popular, look better, be nicer, be the same as others, etc.

 Behaviours that lead to negativity:

  • Seeing only problem and ignoring good things
  • Judging yourself in a harsh way
  • Putting yourself down – thinking of yourself as a loser
  • Exaggerating the chance that bad things will happen
  • Imagining the worst
  • Looking gloomily towards the future
  • See situations as totally one way or the other (usually all bad without some good)
  • You expect that things will continue to go wrong
  • You expect the worst possible thing to happen
  • You imagine that other people are criticizing or rejecting you, even when you don’t have any real reason to.

Point to Ponder: When was the last time you had FUN?
